Since its formation in 1918, the Royal Air Force (RAF) and those who serve in it, like those in 617 (Dambusters) Squadron, have played a seminal role in world history, from turning the tide of the Second World War to patrolling the skies above Britain and its allies today.
When the RAF was formed, life expectancy of those who served was just six weeks. Technological and medical advancements have extended life, creating new challenges.
The RAF Benevolent Fund, founded in 1919, is the RAF’s longest-standing charity. We exist to improve the quality of life, independence and wellbeing of the RAF Family – serving and former RAF Personnel and their Families - though tailored and lasting support. Our promise is simple: One day’s service, a lifetime of support.
However, It is only thanks to loyal supporters like The April Fools’ Club, and projects such as the Special Edition 617 Squadron Operation Highmast print, that the Fund is able to stand beside the RAF Family today, ensuring that those who have done their duty and continue to do so today, are able to live happy, fulfilled and independent lives, with the dignity they deserve.
